Microsoft to invest $3 billion in India
On January 7th, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced a $3 billion investment in India for artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure over the next two years. This will also include the establishment of new data centers.
"India is rapidly becoming a leader in AI innovation, unlocking new opportunities across the country," Nadella said. "The investments in infrastructure and skilling we are announcing reaffirm our commitment to making India AI-first and will help ensure people and organizations across the country benefit broadly," added the Microsoft CEO.
In October 2024, India hosted an AI summit attended by top executives, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Meta's chief AI scientist Yann LeCun. During the event, Huang announced plans to provide Nvidia AI chips to Reliance Industries, India's largest multinational conglomerate, and other Indian firms. Meta introduced the launch of Meta AI Studio, making India the second country, after the USA, to gain access to this program.
