UAE's AD Ports Group announces $30M investment in Kazakhstan grain terminal project

The project will be completed in two stages, with the total investment expected to surpass $50 million.

AD Ports Group and Semurg Invest have begun constructing a new grain terminal at Kuryk Port in Kazakhstan. The project will be completed in two phases, with a total investment exceeding $50 million, of which AD Ports will contribute approximately $30 million. The state-owned logistics company holds a 51% stake in the facility, while Semurg owns the remaining 49%.

Phase one of the Sarzha Grain Terminal is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026. This terminal aims to enhance global food trade by linking Kazakhstan to Europe through the Transcaspian International Transport Route.

AD Ports, under the ownership of state investor Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company (ADQ), operates Abu Dhabi's deepwater Khalifa Port along with other ports and logistics parks across the Middle East, North Africa, the Indian Subcontinent, Central and Southeast Asia, and Europe.

The joint venture in Kazakhstan, announced in August 2023, is part of AD Ports and its subsidiaries’ broader expansion into Central Asia. In Pakistan, they secured a 25-year concession at Karachi Port with a $75 million investment for bulk and general cargo terminals. In Egypt, they partnered with the Red Sea Ports Authority to develop cruise terminals in Safaga, Hurghada, and Sharm El Sheikh, enhancing their regional cruise business.

The acquisition of Egypt’s Safina B.V. expanded their network to 15 Egyptian ports and boosted transit services through the Suez Canal. In Angola, they secured a concession to manage a multipurpose terminal at the Port of Luanda, a major transshipment hub for Central-West Africa. AD Ports also partnered with Indian multinational conglomerate Adani to acquire Tanzania International Container Terminal Services at Dar es Salaam port. In Central Asia, they acquired a 60% stake in Tbilisi Dry Port, strengthening trade routes between Asia and Europe.
