Ministers from 24 countries advocate for the digitalization of global justice

An open meeting of ministers of justice took place as part of the XII St. Petersburg International Legal Forum, gathering representatives from legal systems around the world. The participants shared advanced practices in key areas such as justice sector development strategies, criminal justice innovations and crime prevention, legal services and access to justice, and the digital transformation of legal environments.

Russia’s Minister of Justice, Konstantin Chuychenko, emphasized the importance of legal dialogue between states, even when their legal systems differ. “Each of us works daily to strengthen statehood, uphold the rule of law, and protect the rights, freedoms, and legitimate interests of our citizens,” he noted.

The open meeting became one of the Forum’s key platforms for exchanging experience and expertise in legal governance and technological progress.

Earlier, on May 19, Chuychenko met with the UAE Minister of Justice, Abdullah Al Nuaimi. The two discussed enhancing the legal and contractual framework between their countries, including existing agreements on extradition, prisoner transfers, and mutual legal assistance.

They also addressed the draft protocol on combating cybercrime, which was submitted to the UAE in 2023. The ministers agreed to accelerate its finalization. Russia proposed a new interagency agreement to expand cooperation in legal services, forensic expertise, and public legal assistance.

The UAE’s Minister of Justice Abdullah Al Nuaimi suggested creating a joint expert group to develop administrative and public services, including through the use of digital technologies. “Our countries demonstrate a stable legal partnership. Today, we’ve taken important steps to strengthen it,” Chuychenko stated.
